Kendal Calling is set to throw its biggest ever party this weekend (30th July - 2nd Aug 2015) as it celebrates its 10th anniversary. Lowther Deer Park in the beautiful Lake District will be transformed into one big birthday party venue, which means outrageous fancy dress, celebratory site art and arguably its best line-up to date! With such great musical offerings, (and a whopping five headliners!) we’ve whittled it down to the 10 must-see acts to catch across the weekend.

1. Bipolar Sunshine:

This man from Manchester is a must see at Kendal Calling 2015. His emotive lyrics paired with the uplifting sounds produced by band-mate Jazz Purple serve as a refreshing escape from everyday life and mundanity. With five EP’s under his belt, Bipolar Sunshine has also shown his versatility with ‘Aesthetics 1.0’, a multi-genre mixtape. It’s surprising that Bipolar Sunshine hasn’t blown up already. All in due time.

2. Elbow:

Now seven albums deep, it’s safe to say that Elbow have established themselves as a more than capable headliner. With a back catalogue of hits, such as ‘Grounds For Divorce’ and ‘Open Arms’, at hand. The band are also renowned for their crowd interaction and playful Northern charm, which will no doubt make this years 10th anniversary even more special.

3. Shy FX:

Jungle/drum & bass legend Shy FX is a must see at KC 2015. His unique mix of reggae, dub, and drum & bass is efficiently fulfilling when you want to let your hair down for a good skank. A mix of cult classics, such as ‘Original Nuttah’ and ‘Everyday’, alongside his latest tracks with Liam Bailey and Ms. Dynamite will have your feet moving in no time.

4. Turbowolf:

Turbowolf are what I imagine Daft Punk would sound like if they were a rock band. Tight, thick distorted guitar and plump bass make for some heavy, yet surprisingly funky, riffs. Their latest album, ‘Two Hands’ is infectious in all the right ways, which is evidenced by the catchy track ‘Solid Gold’. One listen should be convincing enough for you to head their way when the time comes.

5. Mr. Scruff:

Mr. Scruff is a veteran electronic music producer and DJ with some of the funkiest tunes around. Since his first release in 1997 Scruff has built a loyal fan-base around his music, which often incorporates elements of jazz, soul, and hip-hop. One thing is for sure; Mr. Scruff doesn’t lack groove, and your head will be bobbing during his performance at KC.

6. Bondax:

After receiving support from the likes of BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac, this young production duo have quickly established themselves as a refreshing, genre-transcending, dance act. Bondax have been releasing a steady stream of music since 2012 and have used their success to establish an exciting live setup. Their latest track ‘All I See’ is a shining example as to why you should go and see them perform.

7. Grandmaster Flash:

Grandmaster Flash is considered by many to be one of (if not the) original hip-hop pioneers, who helped bring the art of DJing to the masses. This guy has some seriously big hits, such as ‘The Message’, and ‘White Lines’, in his armoury. If you like timeless classics, hip-hop, a touch of 80’s, and some of the best DJing you’ll ever see; then don’t miss this one.

8. GotSome:

GotSome are a U.K. bass and house music duo. Their most recent release, ‘Vibe Out’, features grime legend Wiley spitting some typically catchy bars over a gritty, bass-heavy banger. If you’re looking for an energetic, thumping set then look no further.

9. Nick Mulvey:

If you fancy something a little more chilled, and perhaps some acoustic guitar, then Nick Mulvey is your guy at Kendal Calling. His latest release, ‘Fever To The Form’, is a beautiful EP. It features a variety of subtle synths, percussion and other instruments while keeping Mulvey and his acoustic guitar at the centre of attention. Something I’m sure he’ll be this weekend.

10. My Nu Leng:

This diverse Bristol bass pair have spread themselves across the U.K. underground scene by putting their spin on a variety of genres, such as future garage, house, and bassline. My Nu Leng’s forthcoming release, ‘Horizons’, is already tearing up clubs across the country. We promise that you’ll get your recommended dose of bass if you see them perform at Kendal Calling this year.
