Top 10 acts to catch away from the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury 2015.
There’s no doubt you already know about the big acts performing on the Main Stage AKA the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury 2015. But what about the other guys? Who will people be talking about in years to come saying; “I was there!”? Well, let us guide you.
1. Wolf Alice (The Park Stage - Friday 5 pm):
Lead singer Ellie Rowsell isn’t just a pretty face. She comes armed with angelic vocals, and the full force of an up-and-coming band behind her. If their latest album, ‘My Love Is Cool’, is anything to go by then you know this Wolf will have plenty of bite at Glastonbury this year.
2. Flying Lotus (West Holts Stage - Sunday 10 pm):
Flying Lotus is by no means a small fry, but in the vast ocean that is Glastonbury he’s got some tough competition when he plays on Sunday, in the form of The Who and The Chemical Brothers. His latest album, ‘You’re Dead!’, is a beautifully dark mix of hip-hop, jazz and electronic music, and his live show is nothing short of mind-blowing.
3. Lianne La Havas (John Peel Stage - Sunday 7.05 pm):
On the cusp of releasing her latest album, ‘Blood’, Lianne has already dropped first single ‘Unstoppable’; a strangely hypnotic, funky, and atmospheric R ‘n’ B track, oozing with soul. With a full live band backing her Lianne La Havas will be truly ‘unstoppable’ at Glasto this June.
4. George The Poet (Sonic Stage - Sunday 4.30 pm):
One listen to his most recent single, ‘Search Party’, will no doubt convince you to go and see him in the flesh at Glastonbury this year. George The Poet’s social commentary is incredibly insightful and his honest spoken word tracks will have you thinking about life as you hang on to his every word. The man is more than capable of speaking for himself, so go check him out!
5. Rag N’ Bone Man (The Park Stage - Sunday 11 pm):
Rory Graham manages to perfectly encapsulate comforting ‘home cooking’ in his music with his unique take on blues and soul. The gravelly vocals heard across his latest EP, ‘Disfigured’, will be a must see when he performs live in Somerset this summer.
6. Leon Vynehall (WOW! Stage - Friday 8.30 pm):
Leon Vynehall serves as a bridge between house music and a variety of other genres such as soul and jazz. His latest track, ‘This Is The Place’, is a moody number with sulky orchestral instruments, a typical four-on-the-floor house beat, and some offbeat percussion that demands you to throw some shapes. - Get your dancing shoes on!
7. Molotov Jukebox (Avalon Stage - Friday 9.45 pm):
This colourful crew know how to create a party atmosphere with their tropical, gyp-step sounds. Fronted by Natalia Tena of Game Of Thrones and Harry Potter fame, the mob will be bringing their debut album ‘Carnival Flower’ for a barmy yet unforgettable set to Glasto.
8. Loyle Carner (BBC Introducing - Friday 3.15 pm):
This rapper from South London is definitely a little more sophisticated than much of the rap and hip-hop you hear across the airwaves of today. Carner prefers some soulful samples and a boom-bap beat behind his poetic lyrics. There’s still some heart in hip-hop yet.
9. Jon Hopkins (The Park Stage - Saturday 11 pm):
Jon Hopkins has not long released an EP called ‘Asleep Versions’, which is a testament to the following statement. - His songs are beautiful. Like landscapes of ever changing sweeps of sound, where every so often a new sound or snippet will pop up – and it will be satisfying when you hear the tracks live at Worthy Farm.
10. Chet Faker (John Peel Stage - Friday 4 pm):
Chet Faker has hits, such as ‘Talk Is Cheap’ and ‘No Diggity’, at his disposal after his explosive and viral rise to fame. His electronic take on blues and soul is infectious and definitely worth seeing live at Glastonbury if you get the chance!
