Blue Öyster Cult dedicated their performance of ‘Don’t Fear The Reaper’ to the late Amy Winehouse during an appearance at the Ramblin’ Man Fair.

Blue Öyster Cult, who were performing their only U.K. show of 2015, were among a host of acts who took to the Main Stage on the festival’s opening day (25th July 2015).

During their short mid-afternoon set, the New York state group wowed the crowd with a host of classic rock tracks including a monstrous ‘Godzilla’ and an incendiary ‘Cities On Flame With Rock And Roll’.

Addressing the crowd before launching into the haunting guitar intro of ‘Don’t Fear The Reaper’, an emotional Eric Bloom said: “I’d like to dedicate this to the late Amy Winehouse”.

Speaking exclusively to Gigs And Festivals after their set, Bloom explained why he had dedicated the track to the late singer; “I loved her”, he stated simply, continuing; “It was everything about here. She was a tragic character”.

The guitarist went on to say that he felt that the dedication was appropriate because the band were performing in Winehouse’s home country: “I never dedicated a show to her before. I did it because it was here in the U.K.”

During the opening day of the event, the crowd will also be treated to sets from U.S. prog-rock supergroup Dream Theatre and New Wave Of British Heavy Metal heroes Saxon.

Veteran German act The Scorpions will headline the Main Stage tonight with their first U.K. show in almost a decade.

The inaugural Ramblin’ Man Fair is currently taking place at Mote Park in Maidstone, Kent. Featuring three stages showcasing classic rock, progressive Rock, blues and outlaw country music. The two-day event concludes tomorrow (26th July 2015).
