Mark Ronson’s ‘Uptown Funk’ has been crowned the U.K’s most popular song of 2015.
The Official Charts Company confirmed today (4th Jan 2016) that the tune, which was released in late 2014, racked up 1.76 million streams and sales over the last 12 months.
The widely imitated song - which was covered on The X Factor by Fleur East prior to its release - was rush-released and achieved seven weeks at No. 1 in 2015, only leaving the Top 40 in October 2015.
The track, which features Bruno Mars, also became the fifth biggest-selling single in U.K. chart history, selling more than 2 million copies.
‘Uptown Funk’ also broke a U.S. chart record, spending 25 weeks in the Top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100.
VEVO has recently revealed that the song’s accompanying video was the most watched music video of 2015, gaining over a billion views during the year.
Meanwhile OMI’s ‘Cheerleader (Felix Jaehn Remix)’ - which shifted a combined total of 1.52 million throughout 2015 - was named the second most popular song of the year.
Hozier’s ‘Take Me To Church’ followed at No. 3, with Ellie Goulding’s ‘Love Me Like You’ at No. 4.
Wiz Khalifa’s ‘See You Again’ rounded off the top five, with Adele’s ‘Hello’ not far behind at No.6, despite only being released in October 2015.
