Headliners Red Hot Chili Peppers are among the first acts revealed for Reading And Leeds Festival 2016.

As a U.K. festival exclusive, Red Hot Chili Peppers will return to Reading And Leeds nine years after their last performance at the event.

When the band were asked which U.K. festival they would like to play next summer, drummer Chad Smith said: “The simultaneous answer was ‘Reading and Leeds.’”

Following the success of their 2011 comeback record, ‘I’m With You’, RHCP are sure to perform fan favourites from their ten-strong back catalogue of albums, perhaps alongside (fingers crossed) some new music.

Red Hot Chili Peppers will top a bill that also includes ‘Chocolate’ comeback kids The 1975, Mancunian festival favourites Courteeners, Ohio duo Twenty One Pilots, grime group Boy Better Know, and the iconic DJ EZ.

Punk protagonists Slaves, Japanese rave-metallers Crossfaith, Vevo ‘Ones To Watch’ Hinds and the MTV Brand New shortlisted Rat Boy also feature on the line-up for the August Bank Holiday event.

Festival organiser Melvin Benn said: “I’m thrilled to be able to announce Red Hot Chili Peppers as the first headliner for Reading & Leeds 2016, as a festival exclusive. Their incredible live show will be an unforgettable headline performance at the U.K’s biggest music festival.”

“We’ve still got some really exciting names to announce and I can’t wait to reveal the rest of the line-up. It’s going to be our best year yet.”

Reading And Leeds Festival 2016 takes place from the 26th – 28th Aug, with tickets on sale now.
